Junomichi (real Judo) is the educational method created by Jigoro Kano. It is not a sport, and it is not a system of competition.
If you come from what is commonly called “martial arts”, you should be aware, it requires a process of delearning before relearning.
There are no championships, no medals, and no ranking based on performance.
The practice is not ego-driven. The objective is not to win, but to understand about yourselfith the help of a partner.
Practice and learning are continuous. We practise randori and shiai as tools for study. The mind and the body are fully engaged at all times.
During practice:
- there are no pauses.
- there is no interruption for drinking, regardless of duration
- attention and presence are maintained throughout the practice
- we do not fall with the partner
- we only wear white judogi
- we practice to find ways to become better human beings
Junomichi requires:
- commitment
- availability of body and mind
- acceptance of contact and physical engagement
- the ability to question habits and reflexes
It is a demanding practice, mentally, psychologically and physicallyy. It may not suit everyone.
If you are looking for competition, performance, or a recreational activity with frequent breaks, this approach is unlikely to meet your expectations.
If you are willing to engage in a process of study through the body, you are very welcome.
