JUNOMICHI SCOTLAND

Supporting Our Shared Journey

Supporting Our Shared Journey

Junomichi Scotland is a charity run by a committee of volunteers. Classes are also led by volunteers who do not receive any financial payment for their time. The charity does have running expenses which include venue hire for classes, insurance, web hosting and admin costs and the membership and tatami fees are to cover these costs.

Commitment and Contributions

We aim to offer an experience that goes beyond simply paying and receiving something in return, as you might with a vending machine. Instead, think of our class as joining a team—your participation and commitment support the group, and the more you engage, the more beneficial it becomes for everyone, including yourself.

For this reason, we do not take payment on a session-by-session basis but rather for the whole period or in instalments. This approach promotes consistency and dedication, which are important for both individual and group progress.

Payments are non-refundable. This structure helps maintain commitment, as we aim to foster a sense of responsibility to both yourself and the group.

Membership and Fees

There is an annual membership fee for Junomichi Scotland and the Federation of International and Autonomous Junomichi (FIAJ) of £22. This is due at the start of the school year in September.

In addition to the membership fee, there are annual class fees of £170. You can attend classes in both of the schools in Edinburgh – Inch House and Oxgangs Neighbourhood Centre. The cost works out at less than £3 per class if you attend all classes.

You can pay the Tatami fees

  • in full at the start of the school year
  • in three instalments, payable at the beginning of each term (£60 in September, £55 in January & £55 in April)
  • by monthly payment of £17 per month (direct debit, standing order or bank transfer) spread over 10 months of the year (September to June).

IF YOUR FINANCIAL PREVENTS YOU FROM JOINING, PLEASE TALK TO US.

It is more important to keep studying and practicing Junomichi
than stopping because of material issues. There are assisted places available.

Joining during the School Year

If you join after the beginning of the school year in September, your fee will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

Starting After April

If you commence participation after April, membership to the Junomichi Scotland and the FIAJ is not required until the start of the next school year or when attending an FIAJ event (whichever occurs first).

IMPORTANT NOTE

The study and practice of Junomichi ( Real Judo, educational system created by Dr Kano) required 3 direction in line of conducts, the research of AUTONOMY, DECISION and COMMITMENT.
These principles apply to our daily lives, meaning you are fully responsible and accountable for your own actions.
The primary focus is on the practice itself, and the school prefers not to spend time on administrative matters.

Therefore, you are expected to manage your own payments and ensure they are made on time. The school will not send reminders for payments due.

Refund policy

Once payment has been made, no refund will be issued for any missed sessions, regardless of the reason.

In exceptional circumstances (force majeure) where services cannot be rendered as agreed due to unforeseen events beyond the control of both parties a refund may be requested. In such cases, any request for a refund must be made in writing to the Treasurer, clearly stating the reason. Refunds, if applicable after discussion by the Charity Trustees, will be processed on a pro-rata basis. The decision to provide a refund is at the sole discretion of Junomichi Scotland and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

If you are asked to leave the school, you will be refunded on a pro-rata basis for any remaining unused sessions.
