Mission Statement

JUNOMICHI SCOTLAND purpose is to support, coordinate, and ensure the ethical transmission of Junomichi across affiliated schools within Scotland.
Junomichi Scotland maintains educational integrity and coherence of the discipline originally founded by Dr. Jigoro Kano and carried forward through the teaching of Igor Correa Luna and the five core Junomichi principles: Decision, Non-Opposition, Encompassing, Mobility, and Control.
Junomichi is grounded in the philosophical principles of:
– Seiryoku-Zenyo (efficient use of energy)
– Jita-Kyoei (mutual help for mutual prosperity)
These principles underpin Tmission to serve the public benefit through education and cooperative learning.

The organisation is formally affiliated with the Fédération Indépendante Autonome de Junomichi (F.I.A.J.), as recognised in its official letter of mutual commitment. This affiliation is based on:

  • the explicit adherence of the Federation to the five founding principles of Junomichi (Non-opposition, Mobility, Decision, Control, and Encompassing);
  • recognition of the FIAJ Technical Commission as the space for advanced collective research;
  • and the ethical and personal commitment to the Junomichi Charter.

This relationship allows Junomichi Scotland Federation (SCIO) to maintain autonomy in its administrative and pedagogical governance up to the level of First Kyu, while remaining technically aligned with FIAJ for all progression beyond that level.
Junomichi Scotland (SCIO) educational activities include:

a) Supporting the delivery of high-quality Junomichi instruction by affiliated schools, ensuring adherence to non-competitive, inclusive, and progressive pedagogy.

b) Co-ordinating gatherings, seminars, and technical meetings;

c) Maintaining a Technical Commission to oversee student progression and alignment with FIAJ standards, up to the title of 1st Kyu. Organising classes to help students to present work to the technical commission of the FIAJ for the title of Gakusei and above

d) Offering resources and guidance to schools and teachers aligned with the ethical and educational foundations of Junomichi;

e) Representing affiliated Junomichi organisations in policy dialogues, partnerships, and inter-organisational relations;

f) Upholding consistency with the Junomichi Charter (written by Mr Igor Correa Luna) and ensuring all activities further the educational and ethical integrity of the discipline.
